About
I'm Mustafa. I live in Ankara. My father was an IT admin and we had a computer at home since I was born, a 386DX with 4MB of RAM. I never really stopped after that.
I work at JumpCloud as a Senior Principal Engineer, these days mostly on AI. JumpCloud acquired Resmo, the startup I co-founded with Serhat in 2021. Before that I was an early SRE at Opsgenie, and a Principal SRE at Atlassian after the acquisition. I studied CS at Bilkent (BSc and MSc, plus a PhD on Kubernetes scheduling that I didn't finish).
I spent about fifteen years in infrastructure: containers, Kubernetes, observability. Now I mostly point that at LLMs. I like running models locally and finding out what they can actually do. I once trained a 25M parameter model only on Turkish TV dramas. No world knowledge, no math, just intrigue, gossip and inheritance fights. I also indexed my iCloud photos with a local model back when it was still painful to do.
I maintain kubernetes-event-exporter, which I wrote at Opsgenie and presented at KubeCon in 2019. It runs in a lot of clusters I have never seen. The rest is on my GitHub: a Go web framework, a webcam that runs in the terminal, and whatever I was curious about that month. I also build Plate Atlas, a small iOS app for my family about license plate codes.
